My Favorite Natural Supplements for Pregnancy and Postpartum

I’ve been meaning to blog this forever, and it’s a bit comical that I’m sharing this when I’m 8 months postpartum. HOWEVER, it’s still worth sharing because A) these supplements were LIFE to me when I was pregnant and B) I’m still taking most of them now!

When I was pregnant with my first, I took a store bought prenatal vitamin. As I’ve educated myself and had several more children with many different pregnancy symptoms, I’ve realized the correlation to what my body was doing and how I was supporting it with food and supplements.

For example:

  • Being anemic (low in iron) makes you extremely tired. But if you don’t take iron with Vitamin C, it will not be absorbed into your body.

  • Being constipated and having restless leg syndroms has a lot to do with our lack of magnesium.

  • Beef Liver helps with iron and energy and hormone balance bigtime.

  • Vericose veins can be supported with supplements and prevented from getting worse

I’ve also personally decided that I love supporting businesses that are aligned with my values! So when I found We Heart Nutrition, it was a win win. Wholesome Vitamins with the best ingredients who have Christian values and donate a portion of every sale to Pro-Life pregnancy centers. 🫶🏻 (Also, they have 2 girls, 2 boys, and a girl! WILD!)

So here is my hodge-podge mix of Vitamins and Supplements, and the reasons WHY I faithfully took them every day during my last pregnancy!

My Favorite Prenatal Vitamin

My Favorite Postnatal Vitamin (What I’m taking now, but is not pictured in this post)

Magnesium Glycinate

Wholesome Iron

Vitamin C Powder - to fight off sickness

Desiccated Beef Liver - to help my iron levels and hormone balance (I take 4 capsules every day, pregnant or not!)

Super Papaya Ensymes - for Heartburn relief

For Vericose Veins:

Horse Chestnut Extract and Diosmin and Hesperidin

OR

Circu Caps

Vitamin D - I mostly try to spend time in the sunshine, but will supplement with a generic Vitamin D during winter months especially

Floradix - for low iron (I took this a ton right after I had my babies too!)

Magnesium Citrate (love this Sam’s Club brand - they taste so good haha)

Fem Dophilus Probiotics - for Strep B prevention. I took this for my home births

I took all of these daily when I was pregnant. It was a lot, but the way I felt made it SO worth it. My greatest struggles in pregnancy are severe heartburn, low iron, and really intense vericose veins that are painful. All of these supplements truly helped so much.

Now that I’m 8 months pp, I’m taking a Postnatal Supplement, Magnesium, and Beef Liver every day. I’ll also add in probiotics, iron, vitamin c and d as needed, and drink plenty of my favorite mineral drink mix.

If you take any prenatal / postnatal vitamins that have been a game changer for you, please let me know in the comments! I’d love to hear!

Also side note - I’m so grateful We Heart Nutrition also offers supplements for perimenopause, menopause and postmenopause too. I love their company and plan to stay wtih them for the long haul!
